Understanding your truck wheel size makes it easier to find a suitable replacement. However, diameter and width are only part of the picture. Stud pattern, mounting type, centre bore, offset and load rating also determine whether a wheel is suitable for your vehicle.
Use this guide to understand the specifications shown across the Mesh Truck Wheels & Accessories range.

How to Read a Truck Wheel Size
A wheel listed as 8.25 × 22.5 has a nominal rim width of 8.25 inches and a nominal rim diameter of 22.5 inches.
| Example size | Nominal rim width | Nominal rim diameter |
|---|---|---|
| 6.75 × 17.5 | 6.75 inches | 17.5 inches |
| 7.50 × 19.5 | 7.50 inches | 19.5 inches |
| 8.25 × 22.5 | 8.25 inches | 22.5 inches |
| 9.00 × 22.5 | 9.00 inches | 22.5 inches |
| 11.75 × 22.5 | 11.75 inches | 22.5 inches |
These are size examples, not vehicle fitment recommendations. Some catalogues display diameter before width, so always check the specification labels.
Rim width is measured between the inside faces of the rim flanges. Rim diameter refers to the tyre bead-seat diameter. Measuring across the outside edges of a wheel will not give its nominal size.
Understanding Stud Patterns
The stud pattern describes the number of mounting holes and the diameter of the circle passing through their centres. This circle is known as the Pitch Circle Diameter, or PCD.
For example, a specification written as 10/335 generally means:
-
10: Ten mounting holes.
-
335: A 335 mm pitch circle diameter.
Two wheels with ten mounting holes are not necessarily interchangeable. Their PCD, mounting-hole design, centre bore and other specifications may differ.
Centre Bore & Mounting Type
The centre bore is the large opening in the middle of a disc wheel. Its dimensions must be compatible with the vehicle’s hub and mounting system.
Truck wheels may use different mounting systems:
-
Hub-piloted: The wheel is centred by the hub.
-
Stud-piloted: The wheel is centred through the specified stud and nut-seat arrangement.
The mounting holes, nut seats and hardware must suit the system. Matching the stud count alone does not confirm compatibility.
Offset & Dual-Wheel Spacing
Offset describes the relationship between the wheel’s mounting face and the rim centreline. It affects the wheel’s position relative to the hub and surrounding components.
Commercial wheel specifications may also list inset, outset or half dual spacing. Check the manufacturer’s terminology and dimensional drawing when comparing products.
For dual-wheel applications, the wheel and tyre combination must provide the required spacing between the tyres. A wheel with the correct diameter and stud pattern can still have unsuitable spacing or clearance.
Wheel Load Rating
A wheel’s load rating states its permitted load under the manufacturer’s specified conditions. Wheels of the same size can have different ratings.
Check the selected wheel’s rating against the vehicle and axle requirements. Fitting a higher-rated wheel does not increase the vehicle’s permitted carrying capacity.
Matching Wheels & Tyres
Wheel diameter must match the tyre’s specified rim diameter, and rim width must fall within the tyre manufacturer’s approved range.
For example, a tyre marked 295/80R22.5 requires an appropriate 22.5-inch rim, but the marking alone does not confirm which rim width or wheel fitment is suitable.
Always check the complete wheel and tyre specifications before ordering.

Demountable Rims
Demountable rims use a different mounting arrangement from conventional disc wheels. Selection requires confirmation of the compatible wheel centre, rim profile, clamps and any applicable spacer components.
Diameter and width alone are not enough to identify a suitable replacement.
Where to Find Your Wheel Size
Look for stamped or engraved markings on the wheel. Depending on its design, these may appear on the disc, around the mounting area or on the rim.
Useful details may include:
-
Wheel size.
-
Manufacturer and product code.
-
Load and pressure limits.
-
Offset or other dimensional information.
Some markings may be concealed when fitted. Have a qualified technician check inaccessible details rather than removing components yourself.
